The first International Workshop on the Physics of Semiconductor Devices (IWPSD) was held in December 1981 at Delhi. The main objective of this Workshop was to provide a platform to the scientists to interact and exchange information about the research activities in the area of Semiconductor materials and devices. The success in achieving this objective led to thirteen more such workshops being organized by various premier research institutes in different parts of the country every alternate year. The objectives of these workshops became more focussed with every successive workshop. The main emphasis was on dissemination of information on the current topics of interest through in-depth discussions and participation of researchers from India and abroad. The last Workshop was attended by 400 delegates including 110 from abroad and was organized at National Physics Laboratory, New Delhi during December 2005.

The fourteenth International Workshop on the Physics of Semiconductor Devices (IWPSD-2007) is being organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay & TIFR Mumbai in association with the Society for Semiconductor Devices during December 16-20, 2007.

The main objective of this workshop will be to bring together research workers from universities, research institutes and industries and promote interactions and discussions on nine selected aspects of physics and technology of semiconductor devices. The workshop is being organized as nine symposia to achieve the above objectives
